Health Benefits of Chestnut
Nuts of the genus Castanea. They are well known for high rich in vitamin C when eaten without boiled. They are rich in antioxidants due to high amount of gallic and ellagic acids. Due to its high amount of minerals like magnesium and potassium, they play important role in cardiovascular health. Hence they reduce the risks of heart diseases and stroke. Varieties of minerals like vitamins E, A, B complex and many more, gives them medicinal values.
Chestnuts cause side effects due to tannic acid. These side effects include nausea and kidney and liver problems. This occur if they are not consumed with care or if a person is allergic to tannic acid. Tannic acid decreases efficiency in converting nutrients to new body substances. How to Prepare Chestnut Hot Pot
Ingredients:
- I kg Irish potatoes
- 2 onions
- ¼ chestnuts
- ¾ kg carrots
- Salt
- Water
- 30 gm fat
How to prepare
- Prick and boil the nuts for at least five minutes then peel them.
- Peel and slice all the vegetables lay them at the bottom of a pan followed by chestnuts then cover them with potatoes on top
- Ad enough water to cover the mixture. Add fats and boil the mixture at moderate temperature for about half hour.
